Distinctive Unit Insignia

Description
A Gold color metal and enamel device 1 5/32 inches (2.94 cm) in height overall consisting of a shield blazoned:  Gules, two pallets Or.  Attached below and to the sides of the shield a Gold scroll inscribed INGENIOSA ASSIDUITATE in Black letters.

Symbolism
The shield is in the colors of the Ordnance Department.  The two gold pallets allude to the two battle honors awarded in World War II.  The motto translates to By Skill and Persistence.

Background
The distinctive unit insignia was originally approved for the 2d Ordnance Battalion on 25 February 1942.  It was redesignated for the 2d Maintenance Battalion on 9 September 1966.
